About
Soccer was started in 1977. Both boys and girls participate in two separate programs in this sport, sharing common fields located on SBISD school campuses.
Age groups for both the boys' and the girls' programs include five and six year olds, with 7 and 8, 9 and 10, and 11 through 13 year olds forming the other three age groups. Players are placed on teams by school attendance areas insofar as is possible unless there are large enough numbers within an age group to justify forming draft pools and utilizing try-outs and drafts to spread the talent among teams. This usually occurs in the 9 and 10 year old boys and girls. The first week of school information flyers regarding player registration will be placed in elementary schools for all elementary students. This web site will also be available beginning May 20, 2002 for on-line registration.
Games are played during September through November. Games will be played during the week in the evenings, under the lights, and in the morning/early afternoon on Saturdays. Weekday evening games will begin at 6:00 PM. The game fields are the ones that the Sports Association has built and maintains, and are used for baseball and softball in the spring. The 5-6 year old age group, both boys and girls, and the boys' 9-10 age group play their games on the fields at the Spring Branch Elementary School. The 11-13 and 7-8 age groups, both boys and girls, and the girls' 9-10 play their games on the fields at the Spring Branch Education Center. Some boys' 9-10 games will be played at Spring Woods Middle School. This year we will also be using a field at the Westchester Academy and Spring Forest Middle School for practices and/or games. (Locations of the fields are listed under the Baseball and Softball programs, and under the "Fields" button on the Home Page. Both the boys' and the girls' programs conclude in November with interleague tournament play.
