About

Traveling Championship Team Trophies

The Head Coach of the Championship Team in each division has the honor of getting to keep the Traveling Championship Trophy for one year.

About Football

The Football Program accepts boys and girls from ages six (6) through twelve (12) for tackle and five (5) through ten (10) for flag using July 31st as the cutoff date each year. You are not eligible to play if you are in the 7th or 8th grade at a school that offers a football program that you would be eligible to participate in.

The divisions are as follows:

Tackle Football

The SBMSA has weight limits for play and ball carriers in each tackle division:

Division Ages Ball Carrier Max Weight
Freshman 6 - 8 80 lbs. 125 lbs.
Sophmore 9 - 10 100 lbs. 150 lbs.
Jr. Varsity 9 - 10 100 lbs. 150 lbs.
Varsity 11 - 12 120 lbs. 185 lbs.

If the player weighs more that the Ball Carrier weight for his division he must play as a down linemen. If a player weighs more that the Max weight he must play up to the corresponding age group. A player that weighs more than 185 pounds is not eligible to play. Once the official weight is certified prior to the first game that is the players playing weight for the entire season.

For all groups, the regular season games are played on lighted fields, constructed and maintained by the Sports Association, on the Memorial Middle School and Spring Woods Middle School campuses. Our Varsity Tackle program plays on weekends while all other programs play weekdays and weekends. At the end of the regular season, the final play-off games are played in Tully Stadium (the high school stadium), and are known as the Championship Bowl Games.

Landrum Awards

At the end of the district high school football season, the Sports Association recognizes four outstanding players from the SBISD high schools by presenting four rotating trophies for the Outstanding Defensive Lineman, the Outstanding Offensive Lineman, the Outstanding Defensive Back and the Outstanding Offensive Back.

These trophies are known as the Landrum Awards, so named for the long time superintendent of the Spring Branch Independent School District.
